The grands were so helpful in hauling Jeffrey's library from the office down the stairs to two different piles. One going into storage and one going to Accra. Jeffrey has MANY books and the kids laughed as they went up and down the stairs along with their dad to put the books away. </p><h4 style="text-align: left;">Muscles used</h4><div class="separator" style="clear: both; In fact, one lady was surprised that we were giving away a stereo system for a dollar though I noticed she gave the kids quite a few dollars. Some people were glad to get what they were looking for and one couple were obviously garage sell specialists. They showed me a picture of a great find that they had spruced up and found parts for a 3 or 4 hundred dollar appliance. </p><p>I'm not sure what the final haul was for the children but they were happy. Jeffrey bought pizza; then Jeffrey, Kelsi, and Nate took the Nausin's pick-up (thanks!!!) for the last remnants of the garage sale to the dump.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5vc_L908KBnNqsPt1Cd9BWvSat9FNt5TDIjUEFhhf9zG6RiQyfCtr9rMDKQoDRyOhAkGoNJ-IbiRSCTIgoQRC_RmIsp8cPwvbouGNzuk0Pn3fnhCggp2E71dRBky2vPXRq_JV2DnXz6VDxhgRqlUGIQ2XGBD6LH0AG-cJrMKxe9TfUHzNdMkw4P8OYqE/s4032/IMG_0434.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5vc_L908KBnNqsPt1Cd9BWvSat9FNt5TDIjUEFhhf9zG6RiQyfCtr9rMDKQoDRyOhAkGoNJ-IbiRSCTIgoQRC_RmIsp8cPwvbouGNzuk0Pn3fnhCggp2E71dRBky2vPXRq_JV2DnXz6VDxhgRqlUGIQ2XGBD6LH0AG-cJrMKxe9TfUHzNdMkw4P8OYqE/w480-h640/IMG_0434.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><p>In the afternoon, Redding Adams packed up their car and the things they were bringing home. I was glad the kids got to bed about a quarter to eight, so it wasn't too long of a day. Nice day for us and a great service to us. Life is good.</p><p>On an interesting note. I had no problem giving stuff away to people for a dollar, or just giving it away in some cases. But when we went to haul the rest to the dump, I pulled a few things back into the garage as I just couldn't throw perfectly good stuff away. I'm not sure why my psyche works that way. It is gone from me either way. I just wanted it to go to a good home......ok weird.</p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-32927946932756861232024-03-16T17:27:00.000-07:002024-03-16T17:27:04.000-07:00Grands Arrive<p> Nate and Kelsi pulled up in their van just before the sun was gone around 7:25 pm last night. The kitchen is inhabitable and I've been hauling kitchen goods back to the kitchen - from off the floors in bags and boxes from the bedrooms. </p><p>But....</p><p>My arms ache, my legs ache, my neck aches, my toes ache. My mind is shutting down. I keep sitting down for a minute to regroup. At least all the beds are available for Nate, Kelsi, Jayson, Caleb, Lily, Emma, and their dog Yukon - who are on their way down from Redding to help us out. The boys will have a garage sale tomorrow with all our stuff we are giving away. Everything will be a dollar. Counter-top oven, cook stove, nursery gates, juicer, microwave, various kitchen gadgets, everything is a dollar that the kids will earn. </p><p>But I have to get through today.</p><p>It's Jeffrey's birthday by the way. I remember two years ago we were in Accra watching a Polo game and eating really great food when he turned 60. Something to look forward to again - we can celebrate his 65 birthday at the Polo grounds again....</p><p>I just have to get through today.....Life is good.</p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-87962482982951349882024-03-14T17:16:00.000-07:002024-03-14T17:16:44.065-07:00Have you ever watched granite put in a kitchen?<p> Lots of little details go into putting granite sideboards down and also the granite that goes up the wall. </p><p>First, Dan put heavy duty plywood on top of the cabinets and over the dishwasher and the sink.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1VuJKDmZujwdhGo_iEllM2Zv7PeNWj20VZ_fuBKdlzxP_P0A0w1ebSp7XszZ_d99xZrYv880BPLN2iT38sTM9U2fifdYTU8RtqBpIRimirVlA0-dReK6Tsiz0hre26VyvfWQku60AFVrhqCFgQsyxcFv9M_LNeKC1zUgaXLq_woZgJskZAg6GEqJOq9g/s4032/IMG_7048.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1VuJKDmZujwdhGo_iEllM2Zv7PeNWj20VZ_fuBKdlzxP_P0A0w1ebSp7XszZ_d99xZrYv880BPLN2iT38sTM9U2fifdYTU8RtqBpIRimirVlA0-dReK6Tsiz0hre26VyvfWQku60AFVrhqCFgQsyxcFv9M_LNeKC1zUgaXLq_woZgJskZAg6GEqJOq9g/w480-h640/IMG_7048.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Plywood going over the tops of all the cabinets</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT7UQJ6uI_GdIvQRkOCUAj92LNBtWkLZ7gsd3SgTVPQdEuDnjvIbhk89KVkABvq02bdoMd0rSosaORa_ksyB8qhZblLmcXb0VeqUnWqyTDxGbQQWI7rwZUjp_Ah8SpAJlS-Sg6karY7X6K0USj27zhSXG1sHlnyZ_YFyrhgH2nCnF-csPla0MUUuoIq7w/s4032/IMG_7049.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT7UQJ6uI_GdIvQRkOCUAj92LNBtWkLZ7gsd3SgTVPQdEuDnjvIbhk89KVkABvq02bdoMd0rSosaORa_ksyB8qhZblLmcXb0VeqUnWqyTDxGbQQWI7rwZUjp_Ah8SpAJlS-Sg6karY7X6K0USj27zhSXG1sHlnyZ_YFyrhgH2nCnF-csPla0MUUuoIq7w/w480-h640/IMG_7049.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td></tr></tbody></table><div style="text-align: center;">You can note that two long pieces of plywood went down the length of this side of the kitchen. The new cabinets, sink, microwave, and disposal are in. Going in are the recessed lights that will make it bright. I am hoping the fridge and oven can go in also as family is coming tomorrow and I need the space for them. Presently my bedrooms are filled with kitchen stuff and I'm hoping tonight or tomorrow morning I will be able to move things back to the kitchen before the family arrives.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnXi2H6zGy9eKU5OynYc2gzA8voCo-5luY8P8-jLGbfl1pRz_JTqeipAiztZVHjiAG0TdOuQ9LCv1lYWeu-wmG9mYAFL8MIVjPkLsQY1BZ7FHYN3AOCcbfis3qJuiNa5nD-3iiv_x9CLD49VNPhl9hA87Aihq3IR1f1hSsr8mhW09rz3l8Xno5jNARkE4/s4032/IMG_7061.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnXi2H6zGy9eKU5OynYc2gzA8voCo-5luY8P8-jLGbfl1pRz_JTqeipAiztZVHjiAG0TdOuQ9LCv1lYWeu-wmG9mYAFL8MIVjPkLsQY1BZ7FHYN3AOCcbfis3qJuiNa5nD-3iiv_x9CLD49VNPhl9hA87Aihq3IR1f1hSsr8mhW09rz3l8Xno5jNARkE4/w480-h640/IMG_7061.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New cabinets and shelves. Her name is Ruth and I prayed her here.</p><p>We had the nicest older couple who lived by us for years while the boys were growing up. There were extremely helpful and I used his expertise in my Cub Scout days. He died at only 75 and his wife was still a good friend for years until she went to a care center. I prayed and prayed for a good neighbor to move in. We had a different neighbor who reminded me of the controlling man in Julia Robert's movie <i>Sleeping With the Enemy. </i>Not that we saw actual evidence of that kind of thing. It was just his vibe. I really wanted another friendly, helpful neighbor next to us.</p><p>A very loud man and what looked like a roving family moved in. We went to say hi and he told us he was fixing up and flipping the house. When all the dust settled, Ruth moved in! </p><p>She is everything we wanted and love in a neighbor! </p><p>She is very concerned with the environment, has all native plants in her yard, and knows the man who is watching the wolves in Yellowstone. She in interesting, knowledgeable about life, gives good books to read, and has an interesting mom who lived in Prussia before moving to the United States. We love having her as a neighbor!! She and Nate still have a good relationship after Nate and Kelsi moved out of our house and went to Redding. </p><p>When she found our kitchen was being remodeled, she invited us over for dinner - and gave us the left-overs for another time. What more could you ask for? She is the perfect neighbor!</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvrbvYtmqqlBSINEecTOUYnSLCslCYridAq3soV42uZYFD5oCYXGNBrzWxh8J-hSqzcj75Vc1MtZB5tl-BFxoZEOcS62HoSruTmdRkJhRxT1BeBPt3p4JPiz8lGUHtbUGdY3eclj-m_S1rf9cWIpvGfL9lSnE9d-7M7MEJMoiK3fEIGvvA31r6p7nHcws/s4032/IMG_7047.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvrbvYtmqqlBSINEecTOUYnSLCslCYridAq3soV42uZYFD5oCYXGNBrzWxh8J-hSqzcj75Vc1MtZB5tl-BFxoZEOcS62HoSruTmdRkJhRxT1BeBPt3p4JPiz8lGUHtbUGdY3eclj-m_S1rf9cWIpvGfL9lSnE9d-7M7MEJMoiK3fEIGvvA31r6p7nHcws/w480-h640/IMG_7047.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Packing up left-overs - I need to get a picture of her beautiful smile.....</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgNgVFWdG_IehcwGmtDrjVo4SafrzWVz3JuNYu9EovwZVtr6FdbxjzodwBV7jJtFA9z4ykX_SkOiz6zyuI1IdEclZnyf1Ll8cAdqkI34eaJIlyCxGUn0fbGfYKTyxX5_CT-ftaYqz5wbbpgxNSWE6zJgyoQaDhSPgTiYw-xZI4H9IsLkus1fzK-j3IXxA/s4032/IMG_7046.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgNgVFWdG_IehcwGmtDrjVo4SafrzWVz3JuNYu9EovwZVtr6FdbxjzodwBV7jJtFA9z4ykX_SkOiz6zyuI1IdEclZnyf1Ll8cAdqkI34eaJIlyCxGUn0fbGfYKTyxX5_CT-ftaYqz5wbbpgxNSWE6zJgyoQaDhSPgTiYw-xZI4H9IsLkus1fzK-j3IXxA/w480-h640/IMG_7046.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-79701885035642920062024-03-11T12:44:00.000-07:002024-03-11T12:44:24.601-07:00Duck Paddle<p style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in;"><span face="-webkit-standard, serif"> I told my friends I am a duck riding the waves going with the flow - while paddling madly underneath. Each day seems to be a different set of things to deal with. Like today, my arm doesn't want to work very well because I've strained it lifting boxes, bowls, small appliances etc. My wing has been clipped. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in;"><span face="-webkit-standard, serif">When the water gets shut off, no dishes or laundry is done. When the electricity goes off, we scramble around to get a hot spot off our phone for the computer. I usually go to a different chore if I can’t do what I had planned. Coping with simple jobs takes a little longer to navigate the house and obstacle course. The kitchen has construction work and the new cabinets set around and plywood leaning on the fridge. I step very carefully so I don’t trip up on the extension cord running the entire length of the dining room to the living room for the fridge.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in;"><span face="-webkit-standard, serif">The schedule for when we leave and where we go keeps changing also. I will need to have 18 days of clothes before I hit Accra – where we will probably be in a hotel for the last week of May. Hand wash clothes? Once I leave California I will be in hotels until the end of May. It is a little cumbersome. Collect what is needed from fridge at one end of the house, back bedroom and middle bedroom from the other end of the house, prep food on small table, cook food on small table, clean up on small table, and then put it all away in the different rooms.</p><p>I have been telling Jeffrey we are getting ready mentally to go to Africa. Instead I have been counting my blessings that this is just a small interval of time and inconvenience. My African ward members do not have running hot water, constant electricity, or the appliances that make life so much easier.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK5PBGxNvOv05R06hyAMaGgQZtki7XQI54T8IrfeqMZ4AvLwIRabeHLvCkKQsnphWAFg1LhQE3bGUanmzPPRAr0tPokgVTSNhv4CQVFcM8HrOZtIT2pFVZ1_ZYQ63N46l75NB7nMcGwPlAiTSm1yLGvCT3wT38W9jzPzy77LZrcO1JNaXl18cpZWLSVxM/s4032/IMG_7021.jpeg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK5PBGxNvOv05R06hyAMaGgQZtki7XQI54T8IrfeqMZ4AvLwIRabeHLvCkKQsnphWAFg1LhQE3bGUanmzPPRAr0tPokgVTSNhv4CQVFcM8HrOZtIT2pFVZ1_ZYQ63N46l75NB7nMcGwPlAiTSm1yLGvCT3wT38W9jzPzy77LZrcO1JNaXl18cpZWLSVxM/w480-h640/IMG_7021.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">If you notice the microwave is on the floor next to the prep table.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDXBqL1-l3WLB7vA7wTjHstlf9DjH-1L0K9WiZo5gUz7xx55r5YZ50MmtdI2Kl-SnsFxkurZsuuxAO9sxv9APEjpAGLl0CMJXIL_DRiiPrpOuOYEZAk4QEc1I-K-dbCWjyQ71ehWo8xHeuWIZBVp-vchTph8ibd24DczVa6OFLqgtXz5A-zndBeJhKLsc/s4032/IMG_7022.jpeg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDXBqL1-l3WLB7vA7wTjHstlf9DjH-1L0K9WiZo5gUz7xx55r5YZ50MmtdI2Kl-SnsFxkurZsuuxAO9sxv9APEjpAGLl0CMJXIL_DRiiPrpOuOYEZAk4QEc1I-K-dbCWjyQ71ehWo8xHeuWIZBVp-vchTph8ibd24DczVa6OFLqgtXz5A-zndBeJhKLsc/w480-h640/IMG_7022.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Washing dishes is cumbersome and takes a bit of time.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSX5XAtRHgVCcC1tn8Tj3bSy9gLRDjg9xqW3QrwUi4th_cu9upXxt9Grbta9MsSU3WJUn0HCDAK80RSMr3RKHRVJf8ARZpzW0tsiJrmfv2KuAJYAP5RueIyQ0BOuj2ltGnEpuvDqIYl9VM1eK_C1H8dAf82JS89JPmBaasmuuvlm66G6nuVHjf0dZ2stQ/s4032/IMG_7023.jpeg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSX5XAtRHgVCcC1tn8Tj3bSy9gLRDjg9xqW3QrwUi4th_cu9upXxt9Grbta9MsSU3WJUn0HCDAK80RSMr3RKHRVJf8ARZpzW0tsiJrmfv2KuAJYAP5RueIyQ0BOuj2ltGnEpuvDqIYl9VM1eK_C1H8dAf82JS89JPmBaasmuuvlm66G6nuVHjf0dZ2stQ/w480-h640/IMG_7023.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Air dry and put it all back! I know I was living somewhere else rather than Clinton when I filled this out. I think whatever ward we were in had a fun program for kids. Actually, I am not sure if this was our church or not. Anyway, I did enjoy filling out the pages. I was so surprised when I found out two days ago on the back, instructions to the parents, they were to have the children earn money and find out where Palestine was on a map. I don't know what the money was for - and I don't remember earning any. Too bad my brain is blurred on the details - now I am curious.</p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-21772282756891416102024-03-04T15:03:00.000-08:002024-03-04T15:03:43.900-08:00Visiting<p> I had the best two hours talking with Kristi and Cheri Hansen. She texted about an hour before and said she wasn't feeling well and could we postpone? We were on our way when I looked at my phone and I told Jeffrey that lunch was off. He kept right on driving and said how fortunate that I had looked at the phone about 50 minutes late. Where did I want to go for lunch?</p><p>I love spontaneous dates with my husband! So fun. I love being married to him. We ended up at the Spaghetti Factory at Todos Santos Plaza. Good conversation, good friend, good food. Luckily I can leave food in the fridge. No sign yet of any construction work going on. He probably had other jobs that are taking precedent. </p><p>Jeffrey spent the morning whacking all the weeds and mowing (with a push mower!) all the grass in the back yard so that the landscaper can come make an estimate on the work that is to be done. As I watched him pushing and shoving that mower through the tall, wet grass, and I was walking back and forth through the rooms, I told Jeffrey that we are getting ready to go to Africa. The first month will be living out of a suitcase and traveling to a few countries. We're just practicing endurance and patience that we will need as we begin our new adventures.</p><p>It is weird to be in this limbo. Nothing has actually been done at our house [except the kitchen emptied] to make home improvements. The kitchen is going to be done, the outside painting is going to be done, new windows are going to be put in, new yards are going to be made -- but nothing yet........soon.</p><p>I hate that word - soon. It is so ambiguous.</p><p>Well, I'm off to tackle another box from the garage......wish me luck!</p><p>Pictures are from the neighborhood. We are trying to decide what kind of yard we will have.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9f2I_vpAB-4v2_XRZ7L1EMiVtdBs4ALSDIJ_PjQbYux-T-5ld0YtsSzSd9Gq-cYfDrefADqMEk_aHHFGayMYOLgnGsgd5wgD93cTKe-B2IKdmgLH5L_bw3KT94KFT0EVRkwUnO9jZ7Qp_ZvCs7Jb4dmWd-sD6GwqvTtu6y1NUTFfv4uZDgPU-iDTCvkU/s4032/IMG_6955.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9f2I_vpAB-4v2_XRZ7L1EMiVtdBs4ALSDIJ_PjQbYux-T-5ld0YtsSzSd9Gq-cYfDrefADqMEk_aHHFGayMYOLgnGsgd5wgD93cTKe-B2IKdmgLH5L_bw3KT94KFT0EVRkwUnO9jZ7Qp_ZvCs7Jb4dmWd-sD6GwqvTtu6y1NUTFfv4uZDgPU-iDTCvkU/w640-h480/IMG_6955.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukXME4SEDFv6FxYICuZomgfwrHbEP7pVru6jZ2ygRHeb7otxcbgbh6N2XtyqThyphenhyphen3IadwRhndgqlnDhkUgCtEbhpOTj-Jed9PYQiV8NfWrT0mdB-59GsEhmuMIpjrpJIblbk9IKV9LHPdTjOIe9vRyxGlIzGBF1MITDkjHDCksP3k0X2-z3Xi2dNLYSvc/s4032/IMG_6959.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhukXME4SEDFv6FxYICuZomgfwrHbEP7pVru6jZ2ygRHeb7otxcbgbh6N2XtyqThyphenhyphen3IadwRhndgqlnDhkUgCtEbhpOTj-Jed9PYQiV8NfWrT0mdB-59GsEhmuMIpjrpJIblbk9IKV9LHPdTjOIe9vRyxGlIzGBF1MITDkjHDCksP3k0X2-z3Xi2dNLYSvc/w640-h480/IMG_6959.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE3-FWrxlnMu1pa0oLHK0dFJLor90LY5ncNcpdxfmkUQ1RkNM1K7CdprfOkuRPxKiHd8OlNGMyqr8q_nk_GtkEkisu_gvTVcuCeYo-W8WtW7b9xijF5gGAgKrwYfLRzw7q2BmlesOShgAczEGHGPFeNHKUkiqLVJJfJpgsG-QHE0_2vGF6-sp1kl16Clk/s4032/IMG_6963.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE3-FWrxlnMu1pa0oLHK0dFJLor90LY5ncNcpdxfmkUQ1RkNM1K7CdprfOkuRPxKiHd8OlNGMyqr8q_nk_GtkEkisu_gvTVcuCeYo-W8WtW7b9xijF5gGAgKrwYfLRzw7q2BmlesOShgAczEGHGPFeNHKUkiqLVJJfJpgsG-QHE0_2vGF6-sp1kl16Clk/w640-h480/IMG_6963.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-17345599089135644442024-02-28T01:20:00.000-08:002024-02-28T01:20:04.132-08:00Empty Nester Dinner Party<p> Last year a new idea was put forth to have Empty Nester Dinner Parties, so that more people could get to know each other in our new large geographic area. Two wards, and 1/2 each of two other wards were combined into one large ward.</p><p>Due to scheduling (grandparents kept running off to see their grand babies) or people running out of town at the last minute, our group never got together. It became a joke as every time the week would arrive that we would meet, someone would leave town. Have a few months, they put together new groups. Jeffrey and I had a group that canceled because the host got Covid last month. </p><p>So, finally this month we got to go to dinner at the Kruse's house just down the street for a delightful dinner with old friends and new ones to know. Talking was very interesting as the McClellans are moving to Martinez, and the Kruse's told us all about their trip to Australia. The widows told about their adventures and we talked about the joys of Africa. It was a fun and interesting group.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8wGuWpRs_iwa4csSeBrKkrMBy-czVORmk2sBWrz_q2XuJMi1_bvAwtducrw1_M06mS3ZP1xe5JdaT5QOiERNsMyIom3Sk2iA9-AUOYwtkYzxOqb2T4fBmY-HMEKbDbMsjViyYYzmKuqU2kxk4ocGCh3YYT7Rj8wb-0-ARGP4i7fugzIYaxp-bKBC3EN8/s4032/IMG_6940.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8wGuWpRs_iwa4csSeBrKkrMBy-czVORmk2sBWrz_q2XuJMi1_bvAwtducrw1_M06mS3ZP1xe5JdaT5QOiERNsMyIom3Sk2iA9-AUOYwtkYzxOqb2T4fBmY-HMEKbDbMsjViyYYzmKuqU2kxk4ocGCh3YYT7Rj8wb-0-ARGP4i7fugzIYaxp-bKBC3EN8/w640-h480/IMG_6940.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7YX7GXJlTXd5V74Cyssp_S-bEtvY7gfTl8FpCt59GGbh3QTA-G3_7d1PycMnNvarS2UzYOupnogbVvGyuPlfHcnmTbX5DsyZazKjpE07s8dG63abinikjPa6c7qKf07pv2Rul8FTGZmZq6CGd6nMeLTP9INoNlL7A8MaynOnka5lSnXAfJg-5BEdqtCw/s4032/IMG_6941.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7YX7GXJlTXd5V74Cyssp_S-bEtvY7gfTl8FpCt59GGbh3QTA-G3_7d1PycMnNvarS2UzYOupnogbVvGyuPlfHcnmTbX5DsyZazKjpE07s8dG63abinikjPa6c7qKf07pv2Rul8FTGZmZq6CGd6nMeLTP9INoNlL7A8MaynOnka5lSnXAfJg-5BEdqtCw/w640-h480/IMG_6941.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghYkpKgcGXvqagCKDqlStrEELW5dgW_RzyVMWTFTKE9AjbVPX6K2SIupjxWp5ZYjcjSHRQ6uK59B5Diz8-0TT8aOdE4ZEQQ4Y9ZfvokMs6wdenFD75k9HvE6yFvWj6_KJ9Fwa9MtsLJfPyqwdhvOVo3aHTH08n1N6g_wE-b-ETy2dPglS32o617XWzGt0/s3088/IMG_6942.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2320" data-original-width="3088" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghYkpKgcGXvqagCKDqlStrEELW5dgW_RzyVMWTFTKE9AjbVPX6K2SIupjxWp5ZYjcjSHRQ6uK59B5Diz8-0TT8aOdE4ZEQQ4Y9ZfvokMs6wdenFD75k9HvE6yFvWj6_KJ9Fwa9MtsLJfPyqwdhvOVo3aHTH08n1N6g_wE-b-ETy2dPglS32o617XWzGt0/w640-h480/IMG_6942.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh07axBBitlD0P3zY1prWXir76so9mMUWDOlaODih324v0TWjMzATbmSoRGd1fR0UE2QcNw7GAHrgHBQal_mWS3mtHZH4SiJcp0-73t7nfKy8hZfXL1BYtMYP5wRGfMokCsEdZmF0_IMRo9ldZp2oL6AiWdk4y1_DCC0sYPlTkgqUEHYG09Ay5WjGf_r3w/s3088/IMG_6943.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2320" data-original-width="3088" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh07axBBitlD0P3zY1prWXir76so9mMUWDOlaODih324v0TWjMzATbmSoRGd1fR0UE2QcNw7GAHrgHBQal_mWS3mtHZH4SiJcp0-73t7nfKy8hZfXL1BYtMYP5wRGfMokCsEdZmF0_IMRo9ldZp2oL6AiWdk4y1_DCC0sYPlTkgqUEHYG09Ay5WjGf_r3w/w640-h480/IMG_6943.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-51791130484171041062024-02-28T00:42:00.000-08:002024-02-28T00:42:04.246-08:00OK, throw it out<p> On one of the last shelves I emptied in the kitchen, I found a set of old cell phones. They have been there for years - "just in case" someone ever needed them. Well, today I have an iPhone and will never go back to a phone with so much less capability. So it is very safe to throw out. </p><p>In fact, it has been safe to throw away for years as phones get better and better at doing more than texting and calling. The real reason they have been sitting there is because they represented my freedom as a mom, they helped me track down boys after a long distance run, or tell me where they were headed after school, or where they needed to be picked up. I had an attachment to what they represented and couldn't throw them out because of the memories. </p><p>I'm okay now as one - time has passed, and two - the feelings are just memories.</p><p>But that just shows how hard it is to throw away things I don't need or really want anymore just because there is a visceral effect when I pick it up.....there is that garage still looming with all kinds of memories and attachments to go through and throw away......</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bFd0vyJVb10jpOFPrDVAlkwiRB56ch3D-Nxqf7BXZMpGwH-GnnuIO-LYuXASYMvgsTDMpczXmeKk8xXsDZo4xyDRoVv9Se7z4Bp06A8YtpChRxsa-aOn2FDGu7LvzWb0S43hn3uIX5nJx8qT4jLwDcTm-q6lKQ3FZC1JdYXxkCy5nsjGrwhiAIw02sA/s4032/IMG_6944.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4bFd0vyJVb10jpOFPrDVAlkwiRB56ch3D-Nxqf7BXZMpGwH-GnnuIO-LYuXASYMvgsTDMpczXmeKk8xXsDZo4xyDRoVv9Se7z4Bp06A8YtpChRxsa-aOn2FDGu7LvzWb0S43hn3uIX5nJx8qT4jLwDcTm-q6lKQ3FZC1JdYXxkCy5nsjGrwhiAIw02sA/w480-h640/IMG_6944.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Four phones from T-Mobile that saved my effort and time as a mom. Good times.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>I had enough one day and went out to the nearest cell phone store and bought phones and a plan so I wouldn't have one son waiting after a piano lesson because I couldn't find the cross country runners after their practice, and I worried I wouldn't be back home in time to take another somewhere else. The beauty of communication. </p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-35501495587318722162024-02-26T17:05:00.000-08:002024-02-26T23:18:40.524-08:00Good Times<p> Jeffrey and I had a very enjoyable time with the Sacramento Adams. They were riding their bikes down the street (well - Corina was up in a tree) enjoying the beautiful sunshine when we pulled up. Not too cold, not too hot, just the right temperature.</p><p>A neighbor came along and told Matthew he had something for them. So the whole family went down the street and came back with a wheeled device that stood to Matt's shoulder. When they set it up in the backyard, it was two small basketball hopes with an electronic scoring board. The kids played with it and had a lot of fun. </p><p>After getting bit up by mosquitoes, we went in and Opa played some board games with the kids while I chatted with Matthew and Debbie while they made supper.</p><p>There is really something great about connecting with family. We left with good feelings and contentment.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0rx82EM2-DttRIcz6h0aBmCMKy21ROfYY49IP09DpkaeSSC4qaG5duJ3heFybBEi_ONZY3K5atn9wx5TZvKF5idCqT-OA24D9u1elPYdYVZ9r2Z1l9hDxZ_91fjrSOtlx9POlwPJgSyOWQe6hNWGvAJi4MO6m90zpFwmeVnqmRllOj9iKyIIasfVC8ZQ/s4032/IMG_6912.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; Matthew and Debbie are looking for a new home and so Matthew is not spending a lot of time and effort in his backyard garden. He did plant some Inca Berries which he thought would die out. </p><p>They did not, and in fact they were producing all through the winter (well winter as California knows it). Anyway, I decided to try some and found they were pretty good when they are yellow. The green-yellow ones are a little sour. I didn't know they were even a fruit, so imagine my surprise when I looked them up and they are being sold in whole food stores and on the internet. In fact they are good for you!</p><p>On incaberry.com it says: " But more importantly Incaberries contain soluble fibre necessary for controlling appetite and reducing cholesterol re-absorption in the intestine. It is kinda fun. It looks like we will be leaving May 1st or the beginning of that week. The kitchen should be going in soon as the cabinets are going to be ready to pick up on Wednesday. Today I have been unloading shelves and throwing away stuff. I am getting good at throwing away stuff. </p><p>I asked Laura Nausin to come over and help me figure out what appliances went with what pieces. I have a juicer, a processor, and some other gadgets that have been used for a season - but I'm probably not going to use them again. The fact that I did not dig them out in six years is pretty conclusive. Even if I was gone three of those years - I didn't "find" them between missions.</p><p>So now I have some cool gadgets but no bandwidth to find them a home. I really want a fairy-god mother to come whisk these away to another home...... reverse of a personal shopper?<span> </span></p><p><span>So most of the kitchen is empty and I have piles of dishes, pans, and pantry items lined up in the bedrooms until Dan Phillips can start the </span>remodel. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTZdmxiwJ3z9kBKR8aavlOvfFMWeS_o6_dJq5EsVSsXoMlrCqLY9sJAyTguIBnpHgchhkeD18CcR0PpSq0Jp_BcRYYf5cI9Gy-Berpmf-glkkU6eILsVCSYV4POVoo7gbrLwr7XgV3jAelrZaMuiUnCzwbyVdjtvroB2ClePqEEQa0z4UvvcZ2wsg2y4/s4032/73067087386__05896F4E-872F-4576-8C17-CCB7F87316E0.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTZdmxiwJ3z9kBKR8aavlOvfFMWeS_o6_dJq5EsVSsXoMlrCqLY9sJAyTguIBnpHgchhkeD18CcR0PpSq0Jp_BcRYYf5cI9Gy-Berpmf-glkkU6eILsVCSYV4POVoo7gbrLwr7XgV3jAelrZaMuiUnCzwbyVdjtvroB2ClePqEEQa0z4UvvcZ2wsg2y4/w480-h640/73067087386__05896F4E-872F-4576-8C17-CCB7F87316E0.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Need a New Home</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigdXaC8V2MvAdxCYIRMxfkBZ1F8eakK9Z83FqFls5cwUUgpeGTIu1UuYoBBvpdRUOaGSk40UryBgJ0JIX-3VLBG9PvoWl_C8WfswpHhXvSOwLYURXtxca2Mu0z1bv1FfKzLQTD46GpnTejkHKshEqcRPpSed70YZTMtJfkIm18LLrN6n5Fd4JdkwqVLR8/s4032/IMG_6938.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigdXaC8V2MvAdxCYIRMxfkBZ1F8eakK9Z83FqFls5cwUUgpeGTIu1UuYoBBvpdRUOaGSk40UryBgJ0JIX-3VLBG9PvoWl_C8WfswpHhXvSOwLYURXtxca2Mu0z1bv1FfKzLQTD46GpnTejkHKshEqcRPpSed70YZTMtJfkIm18LLrN6n5Fd4JdkwqVLR8/w480-h640/IMG_6938.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My shelves on the floor</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYcRqgAFD2c1heq2NL_ZiRT3ciAUW7I33sTa8IftGjSpMpvmNWB6MsRuojg7uKj_T-bUqYeZlhpnuUrBe9lwe0AUUHzqD9h7IZoTyN1odiwPRNmx2a27SAUCVT0jpS_7bhR23eWWLNXeS6v4wFKJNZme5Rr1l-Eq7P961msVdbH_3Qh61nUD_-6HiK4VY/s4032/IMG_6939.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYcRqgAFD2c1heq2NL_ZiRT3ciAUW7I33sTa8IftGjSpMpvmNWB6MsRuojg7uKj_T-bUqYeZlhpnuUrBe9lwe0AUUHzqD9h7IZoTyN1odiwPRNmx2a27SAUCVT0jpS_7bhR23eWWLNXeS6v4wFKJNZme5Rr1l-Eq7P961msVdbH_3Qh61nUD_-6HiK4VY/w480-h640/IMG_6939.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Stuff I want to put back in my new kitchen</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>I decided to stop for a bit and look at my emails and write a bit before I charge back into the job.....</p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-53160635938396201142024-02-23T16:02:00.000-08:002024-02-23T16:02:27.324-08:00Juggling Priorities<p> Recently, I have been popping into vivid memories of being in Africa. I can see and smell it, and the realization that I will not be cold for a long time keeps occurring to me early in the mornings. </p><p>My life seems to be in a state of flux as we are getting ready to put a new kitchen in, sort out the garage, get the popcorn ceilings off [I've only waited since 2 months after we moved in --- in 1992], get the lawns redone (again), and paint the outside of the house - never been done while we have been here. Lots of juggling between leaving and fixing up.</p><p>Today we looked at kitchen cabinets, counters, and discussed what we liked with Dan Phillips. We have estimates of other things from Rob Baldwin, also looking for some new windows, and carpeting in the back bedrooms. Then, we are looking forward to going on trips for different conferences in London and Africa, and asking questions of what our responsibilities in Africa will be in June. </p><p>There is an unreality to what is going to be and what is happening right now. My house has piles in the rooms of what goes to storage, what goes to Accra, and other piles of "how do I decide?". This week I will need to get everything out of the kitchen so he can tear it all apart to put back together. I told Jeffrey we will probably eat out a few times next week...and probably the week after. </p><p>We'll probably get a beautiful house that we will leave for three years - feels about like the last time ALL my kids lived in California and we went to Africa. Now it will be the house that has waited for so long to look nice and we will go to Africa. </p><p>I live an interesting life! I pulled out a piece of paper that reminded me of when life was simple. Cub Scouting in the 90's.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiakW3rNc-hdiSg9LXiY-z4dlU0vhuWhDgg8KbXyue3dYTvZjztFdn04p-k0fkwdy3-zjGLzl9UriH4R7F2EFvPuWkvVGW8i1J21HNFhTIx_FzNUOlNaFK1GzvmfcF0XsySusFq2RT2u8rSlXs6P-hUvWUB5M0fPKHV1f0mW8zOvmy3A52KpHCXwBjpqFw/s4032/IMG_6894.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiakW3rNc-hdiSg9LXiY-z4dlU0vhuWhDgg8KbXyue3dYTvZjztFdn04p-k0fkwdy3-zjGLzl9UriH4R7F2EFvPuWkvVGW8i1J21HNFhTIx_FzNUOlNaFK1GzvmfcF0XsySusFq2RT2u8rSlXs6P-hUvWUB5M0fPKHV1f0mW8zOvmy3A52KpHCXwBjpqFw/w480-h640/IMG_6894.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p>March and April will be different this year.............</p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-59224883428227534312024-02-17T17:08:00.000-08:002024-02-17T17:08:09.905-08:00Good Things Can Come from the Garage<p> We packed up pretty quick in 2016 and shoved our stuff into the garage. Nate was so kind to build shelves so we didn't have to buy storage space. It was difficult to throw away stuff that I had spent time collecting for "someday". Someday I'd write my history, someday I'd put together picture books, someday I'd use the crafts and ..... well, 'stuff' I had for all kinds of projects. All the 'stuff' from school and letters, and just stuff.</p><p>Today I have been throwing away stuff. Shower curtains, cd label maker, old calendars, papers and notebooks of things that were precious in the day - but not now.</p><p>And I've fun into some memories. One box let me know what a bad mom I was. A whole plastic shoe box of awards the boys earned in cub scouts - that never got sewn onto their uniforms. I had a someday project of making a board to glue them all on. But in today's world, no one cares about cub scouts anymore. So do I throw it all away now? I put that in another - "decide tomorrow" pile.</p><p>I found a box full of Mother's Day cards, posters, and stories. Oh so fun and full of warm memories. But little kids do not stay in adoration of their mothers when they get older, so the sediments are probably different now. I'll probably throw those away. But one I had to take a picture of because Lilly just sent me a letter with a rainbow she made and I opened a letter from one of my children that had a rainbow too.</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qHS-0TGbmiwZA0dKlc3LrZsoXF0bhjlVG8WVwoSEbZ3uC5CAOkLx9wU3nOs09OqjZoxypVX8vt9RHTSgs7WthqBqKYZdB4BMGQDuLnkDd0OVptQPhlYKya1nQxbHqc_wmRHG75akgn8gcv4VRlCLcB-07T0ELFq6U3w0EskYzjePT7lNdkmvZadE9Hw/s4032/IMG_6844.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qHS-0TGbmiwZA0dKlc3LrZsoXF0bhjlVG8WVwoSEbZ3uC5CAOkLx9wU3nOs09OqjZoxypVX8vt9RHTSgs7WthqBqKYZdB4BMGQDuLnkDd0OVptQPhlYKya1nQxbHqc_wmRHG75akgn8gcv4VRlCLcB-07T0ELFq6U3w0EskYzjePT7lNdkmvZadE9Hw/w640-h480/IMG_6844.jpeg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lilly sent me a letter today and I found a letter from years ago - I still love rainbows!</td></tr></tbody></table></p><p><br /></p>Another memory that popped up was an old calendar that I had put in Jeffrey's office. I wanted to go to Hawaii - or any beautiful beach - so I hung a calendar where he would see it when he sat down at his desk. I don't think the page was ever turned that year. But we have been to Hawaii a few times since. I chalk it up to the power of suggestion.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVuna846-tEFHB4DdmCKhSzZOuADLMqnXiHJt5m7cpC5pDXmeLqXvMOIejdbNXIUCrYhN11Ht68AYU_zb5NnYqfxk9cUs7epKZ7R1RaPpWqaZkRaficG7xW1UTjPaGtFr8Uw_Z5-w8jAcp494lxh4NhLhz-96dGGepXkk2FQggfoUUjHQ-s2pANmakegQ/s4032/IMG_6845.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVuna846-tEFHB4DdmCKhSzZOuADLMqnXiHJt5m7cpC5pDXmeLqXvMOIejdbNXIUCrYhN11Ht68AYU_zb5NnYqfxk9cUs7epKZ7R1RaPpWqaZkRaficG7xW1UTjPaGtFr8Uw_Z5-w8jAcp494lxh4NhLhz-96dGGepXkk2FQggfoUUjHQ-s2pANmakegQ/w480-h640/IMG_6845.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvuh8xI6kzBjmx5tF_3Ikwgcd8ioJX9xWrWTDLNPZBTeYyLKapBI_lp7SnzsFo4d5FMKco3DqRi_5DbhlQvXKPi6z7uHB9mStPj2NewA6WbtQkOq8e0-iKvU53qBIglAFlBmQhsCbJ9lXRhUTyLzcLixJzzcDDVDxtuhnyQFk9o_5C3vzIusxwPvxK8_g/s4032/IMG_6846.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvuh8xI6kzBjmx5tF_3Ikwgcd8ioJX9xWrWTDLNPZBTeYyLKapBI_lp7SnzsFo4d5FMKco3DqRi_5DbhlQvXKPi6z7uHB9mStPj2NewA6WbtQkOq8e0-iKvU53qBIglAFlBmQhsCbJ9lXRhUTyLzcLixJzzcDDVDxtuhnyQFk9o_5C3vzIusxwPvxK8_g/w480-h640/IMG_6846.jpeg" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It is amazing what a picture can do</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br />But I go on lots of adventures now and I don't need to suggest anything! The name of it is "An Immense World" by Ed Yong. I highly recommend it though I wouldn't read it to children and it would take a special teen to read it. I read some pages and then I have to stop and think about it as the ideas are new and different, but intriguing and understandable.</p><p>I wish I could set here the opening page of that book, "The Only True Voyage" where the author sets up an gym where an elephant, Rebecca, mouse, robin, spider, bat, owl, mosquito, and rattlesnake are in the same room. He describes how each is perceiving [or not] each other and what happens when the lights go out. Hearing, sight, perceptions, magnetic trail from earth, echolocation, infrared radiation, sonar, are touched on or inferred that "each is enclosed within its own unique sensory bubble, perceiving but a tiny sliver of an immense world." He goes on to explain <i>Umwelt</i> which "is specifically the part of those surroundings that an animal can sense and experience--its <i>perceptual</i> world."</p><p>How fascinating Umwelt is!! There are more senses than the usual five and each animal or being experiences life in a unique and specific way. The earth's magnetic field guides and directs many animals that others don't experience. Anyway, I'm only on the first chapter after the introduction and my mind is exploding with thoughts and ideas as I learn.</p><p>One of the big ones is that God and Jehovah would created the world had to already have all the knowledge of how magnetic fields, sonar, echolocation, etc., etc. worked BEFORE they pulled chaos into organization to make the solar system and earth we live on. How they got each piece to work with the other pieces into this "Immense World" of senses and lives immeshed with each other. Julia brought a brush and said how Isla wasn't cooperating with hair brushing in the morning. </p><p>I told her no worries, Isla's Opa is the best de-tangler of little girls hair around. He could help Rebekah as a little girl - no braids or styles, but he can de-tangle hair. For Rachel it was critical as her hair was so long as a two year old. [We won't go back into the story of two little girls playing barber....]</p><p>Anyway, I was correct. When Jeffrey came home from his walk, I asked him to help Isla out and sure enough, he had her tangle free and happy. It helps to have a story going on while he is brushing.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM7Gc2vzjQlE75XgLfdXuxEDXgyKq91Yz3mAJFWQeSnedymfaIEzNk-dKEBsmOFn3gdjb-TDO9MNlIFsMSOOr3jYnrbK9dCEl3Nway6bjUiK0ZIIn2yvVAe6VSHXfgkcl68bBBj8_xGxB8T0UCH8n22EuAG4sWPFqTkQWiPTOf3gtLZX5lN78XQlfVVXg/s4032/IMG_6836.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM7Gc2vzjQlE75XgLfdXuxEDXgyKq91Yz3mAJFWQeSnedymfaIEzNk-dKEBsmOFn3gdjb-TDO9MNlIFsMSOOr3jYnrbK9dCEl3Nway6bjUiK0ZIIn2yvVAe6VSHXfgkcl68bBBj8_xGxB8T0UCH8n22EuAG4sWPFqTkQWiPTOf3gtLZX5lN78XQlfVVXg/w480-h640/IMG_6836.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-967276683406286353.post-77065512484306595592024-02-15T16:36:00.000-08:002024-02-15T16:36:13.534-08:00Good Day<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNTxWSn4th04YT1a9h3Dp7EbZpB3q9ANHHipUwP4UTpOKr35eB9q3ckuEaViwb2CxfhpXRsrLm59FeQNzvuzVgwdBhfIBy4R-mffsJRpY79l-gIVzJVTBFCr7R1LZTxaZH0ILbNmooaNmY10pEdrNakNmHZRLmb58TFZkWQaTKYW_7YiNFNBLuiN7c20M/s4032/IMG_6838.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNTxWSn4th04YT1a9h3Dp7EbZpB3q9ANHHipUwP4UTpOKr35eB9q3ckuEaViwb2CxfhpXRsrLm59FeQNzvuzVgwdBhfIBy4R-mffsJRpY79l-gIVzJVTBFCr7R1LZTxaZH0ILbNmooaNmY10pEdrNakNmHZRLmb58TFZkWQaTKYW_7YiNFNBLuiN7c20M/w480-h640/IMG_6838.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><br /> Today Jeffrey and I went to the temple to do some work for his ancestors. Jeffrey is determined to get the work done for individuals missing little pieces of their temple work. I went to finish the last grandmother that he wanted to do something for before Feb 23 - It is some due date he has. <p></p><p>The tulips were amazing and it was a beautiful day and spirit. I wish all could feel the love of the Lord in their lives every day. </p><p>Last Tuesday when we went, I was struck by the idea that I am going to be consecrating my life for the next three years to church work. I will be giving up close access to my children and friends and way of life to support and help Jeffrey's efforts to bring temples, church buildings, and reduce chaos as much as possible in a different part of the world. </p><p>I have felt every time I go on a mission, I learn more about the covenant of marriage and why it is vital to God's plan of happiness. This time I will learn about consecration and how that fits in to the overall plan too. So many different threads of how God's love works. How important covenants are. Why we are given them. How to magnify them in my life. Why temples and temple work is so important. </p><p><br /></p>LA Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17924167607207289162noreply@blogger.com0
