We had five companionships of Elders and Sister come to have dental work done so our waiting room was full. After Sister Stewart reviewed oral hygiene, they had taught each other some health lessons and had read some books, some of the Elders wanted to talk. I asked about the pioneers in the room and wondered when each of them had joined the church. Four of the five Elders were the only members of their family. The fifth Elder had joined the church when two missionaries arrived at his door and he heard what they had to say. He said that this was unique because where he grew up Elders could not go door to door because it is against the law. He can't remember the reason they came, but he said it changed his life and then his brothers life later that year and then his mom and dad joined the church a year or so later and now he is going out to be a missionary himself.
There are only pioneer stories here because the membership started in the 60's.
I was struck by the idea that I was watching or witnessing a prophecy in 2 Nephi being fulfilled. Many of the chapters deal with the prophecies of Isaiah and how the words from the dust will "speak" and convince people of the Savior and His redeeming power.
These young men are all heeding the "words of the book" and doing great things in the sight of God. They have a strong faith and seemed to have been born with the faith to hear and heed the message when they are exposed to the Book of Mormon.
