Senegal looks like a lion and it's mouth is called a crocodile smile - Actually it is a country The Gambia (picture taken from Wikipedia) |
Jeffrey and I went with Brent Belnap and the Eastmonds to The Gambia a country surrounded by a French country Senegal. The effects of the English and French fighting are in evidence today. The Gambia has English as it's official language. It didn't matter to the French or the English that African families and tribes were on either side of their lines and boundaries.
The Gambia has over two million people and is approximately 30 miles wide and not quite 200 miles long. It is the smallest country in Africa and almost but not quite as large as Jamaica. Today there are 10 known members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are no branches or wards as the church is not an entity in The Gambia. Jeffrey and his friends are hoping to change that. The members who live here have come from other places like Ghana and Liberia and are waiting for recognition to be part of the church in Gambia. This means if others are members and have moved in, they are not presently known.

These are all the pioneers in Gambia who live here without formal recognition of the Church in this country. The whole trip was to get started on the logistics of getting the church recognized. Hopefully it will not take a long, long time.
