In church on Sunday, one of the ladies made a reply to a question using tithing as an example. She said that tithing is different than alms. Tithing is the Lord's and not for us to use as we think is best. She noted that if you have money in the bank and know that a certain amount is someone else's, you do not spend that. If ten percent is the Lord's then it is not ours to spend or divvy out as we think best. We pay our tithes to the Lord and use any extra money we have to give alms or to those in need.
