The Ride can be The Adventure

We woke up at 3:30 in the morning so we could take off at 4:15 and be at the chapel to pick up the Young Single Adults at 4:30 am. Getting out of the city went just fine as there was not a lot of traffic - though I am always amazed at the amount of people who are up and running around so early!

Traffic in Ghana follows a different beat and Jeffrey is aggressive in cutting around trucks and getting ahead. The young man in the car with us was just as aggressive, so we made very good time until we were up in the hills watching the sun come up over the horizon.

Mists of darkness we must go...

About an hour or so into our trip the adventures began. We drove into a cloudy, misty morning where the sun was hidden in a white haze. Some parts were visible about 6 feet. So driving became the adventure.

Shaken, not stirred...

About the time we drove out of the cloud, the road had disintegrated in a wash of a dirt road where we were swerving around wash-out holes and rivets and only stopping for deeper gaps in the road. About the time we were sick of swerving, we got onto a paved road --- oh goodie - then we were bouncing up and down going over paved pot and sink holes with some gaps. Out of the corner of my eye, I noted Moses bouncing in the back seat. I started to duck down as my head kept cracking on the handle on the side of the roof next to the door.

Beautiful green - due I am sure because of the rain - which makes the roads rough

Jumping ahead to the end of the story.....

After a wonderful day - next posts coming - we piled into the car just as the rain came down hard. Good timing on our part (or the Lord being gracious to us after such a fun day). Jeffrey is contending with pot holes and rain while watching the cars and trucks ahead.

Chicken or Whack a Mole....

Then it was a two lane highway filled with cars and big (usually overloaded) trucks. Jeffrey would dart into the oncoming lane and around the slow trucks and cars and nip back into his lane before the trucks arrived coming the other way. Usually a truck would meet us first as the cars go around the trucks so there is a gap to drive in before the slower moving truck comes along. Driving is for the intrepid.

Please Lord...

The sun had just gone done and we were in Accra and the highway started having regular stop lights every few miles. At one of the stop lights the young man's car in front of us didn't go through the light. Jeffrey had been following him as he did not know which streets to go in Accra. I immediately asked the Lord if his car would work until we all got home. Jeffrey had missionaries coming and we weren't going to leave anyone stranded and I just felt the Lord could help us out and he could take care of his car in a good place - instead of the highway stop light. His car headed out on the next green light. When he paused at another light, I kept praying and he made it around the left turn and right up to the church parking lot.
This is our car on the first stop - it now has another layer on top of that
