I have been fascinated watching mommas carry their babies on their back with a simple piece of material. I bought some material for Julia because 1 it was purple and silver, 2 because it is Kente, 3 I thought it would be fun if she could hold Isla on her back with it.
I asked two ladies at church today if I could video in slow motion how they wrapped a baby up. The process is actually so much faster when the momma's do it than this demonstration, but I wanted to know all the little details of how they did it.
The video was too long to put directly in, so I put it on YouTube and have a link here.
Because there are two ladies, the method is not exactly shown exactly as momma's really do it, because one was helping the other do it in slow motion. One momma can shift her baby on her back, flip the cloth around and tuck it in at the pit of her shoulder and then hike the baby up with the bottom of the cloth and then wrap and twist it around her waist and tuck it in. All in about 15 seconds or less. This video is 4 minutes.
Taking the baby off her back, she slips one side off and with the motion of the cloth brings the baby and cloth to the front. About 5 seconds. I didn't want to wake the baby up, so we didn't do that demonstration.
The baby is about four weeks old. So adorable.
So kind of these ladies to demonstrate baby wrapping |
