Grim news from my brother David

I'm feeling a little hollow and undecided in how to act. The word from my brother David's family is frightening and hard.

Three months ago Dave and Diann decided that she would move back to Utah because of terrorists acts going on in Guam where they have lived for quite a few years.  They were concerned about their granddaughter that Diann is taking care of while her daughter goes to school. That was hard but necessary for the well-being of their family.

Six weeks ago some changes in Diann's physical abilities were noted. A week ago on Saturday she literally could not give a talk for a baptism of another granddaughter. Everyone knew something bad was happening.

Meanwhile David was going through trauma in Guam when a leader died on a Youth Activity. Since he is the Bishop of the ward, he had to deal with his own and his ward members grief.  Before that is completely settled he gets the grim news about his wife and makes an emergency trip to the states to help her.

The frightening news is that after taking her through a CT scan and an MRI they have to choose between surgery where they think she will not be able to walk or talk afterwards, or put her on hospice.

Most of our families are fasting for their family today.

Does David need family around or would sending money be more helpful?

I'm thinking back to the family cruise where Diann was telling us about their mission and the miracles and happenings they witnessed. I cannot say how much I am appreciative of the fact that they took tremendous effort, time, and money to be with us all.
