Organizing Conference - think Murphy's law

I now have a very tender heart for all those who put on Conferences like Stake or General, or Women's, etc. Jeffrey once told me that President Hunt told him that before all Stake Conferences, everything would go wrong - President March found out things can go wrong during Stake Conference. In his case, the lights and power went out.

Organizing a simple Area Conference has been a juggling act every week. Simple things like asking for prayers, asking missionaries to tell us about their mission, or getting the music arranged, should be a day's work. The main speaker rotates through the Area Presidency, so that is arranged a year in advance and we  know months ahead of time.

First the date was changed to a different month due to a schedule conflict. A domino effect happened because then the missionaries giving a presentation have intake and outtake of young missionaries and will not be at the conference. I got a professional music missionary who changed the song to a better selection, and the opening and closing prayers had to be switched to missionaries who would actually be in town. Then a Covid test left my main speaker in a different country. Jeffrey was doing training and the technology in the chapel did not work properly.

Tonight my organizing is all on the line. My new main speaker and his wife know what is going on. check. The technology for a PowerPoint from a different country (Senegal) has been okayed - and we have another copy of their presentation in case we need to load it on sight. check. The prayers and music are covered. check. The technology department I know by name and face now. They say all is ok. check. Now I'm walking over about 45 minutes ahead of time.....

Did you know we have Area Conferences about three or four times a year!!!! I have to do this again in August. Ugghh.
