I can't believe it was just last week that I was preparing pies and a chicken for 24 people to come to dinner at Lucie's home. Time has a way of flying by!
Having participated and been with Laura when she does weddings, receptions, graduation parties, ward parties, and stake events, I know how she prepares. I did the same thing. I wrote everything I was making, what ingredients were needed, what pan, plates, and serving items I needed and then wrote a timeline so everything would all come together before it was to be served.
I really laughed the night after the party because the prep beforehand really didn't take long at all. But the set up of the room and getting Lucie's place organized was epic. Four women had opinions on how things should be done and then someone would re-decide how it should look. I did nothing but run up and down to and from my apartment at the top of the building to Lucie at the bottom. Little things like a matches and a birthday candle as it was Hannah Morrison's birthday. Serving items, salt and pepper, wrap, etc., etc., etc. Really? Laura's way of thinking things ahead of time works SO much better. [Next time]
The chicken prep was fast, maybe 20 minutes and the dishes were washed. The rolls had to rise after mixing all the ingredients, then waiting to cook, I just had to watch so I didn't burn them. The pie was a 10 minute job. So that left me with plenty of time to sew up extra table napkins and do some Relief Society ministering.
I hung back a little at the dinner so as to not be in the way. After I sat down when all were served, Elder Christofferson came around from his table and shook my hand thanking me for being part of the dinner. That is one observant man. I fell in love with President Nelson's daughter. She was traveling with her husband in Elder Christofferson's group. She is kind, has blue eyes, and the sweetest spirit around her. Elder Christofferson made it a point to come back for seconds. I noted his first plate was not very full. I think he is very smart and sharp. Quite a few commented on the fact that he liked his meal and went back for seconds. I think he was paying an unspoken compliment. The fact that he is very lean, means he gauges his plate well - and knows how to make people feel good.
It was a fun night.
