Traditions that come and go

Andrew asked us if we were going to have a fondue party this year. What great idea - we planned it for Boxing Day as we knew Rachel would be getting in on Christmas Day. I'm trying to remember if Rebekah has ever been at one of the parties. I think it begin after her time. This is not an annual tradition, but we seem to do it around Christmas time.

It gets a little complicated when Mike and Julia's family rarely eat meat and Julia can't have wheat products. That puts Grandmama's cheese fondue out. But that is okay as I found a different recipe that turned out well. Laura showed me where to get jumbo shrimp - which is acceptable to Julia, so I knew we were covered because I got chicken and filet mignon for the rest which Jeffrey prepared. Lots of veggies for the cheese sauce and special crackers for Julia along with sourdough baguettes for everyone else.

So Much Fun!! Jeffrey and the women at the table cooked the meat pieces in the oil and handed them over to Mike and Andrew with the little girls and the cheese fondue was passed around along with the trimmings. It takes so long to cook each bite that there is plenty of laughing and talking time.

Two fondue pots with hot oil to cook the chunks of meat on the skewers

Lots of laughs and talking. A perfect party.

We are going to have to do this again....
