Anticipating their vacation

Last Friday, Jeffrey and I came up to Redding to take care of the grands while Nate and Kelsi went on a long awaited cruise. We brought Papa Murphy's pizza as it was pizza and movie night. Kelsi and Nate  have been planning this trip for nearly a year.

But four days before, Kelsi texted that most of the children had come down with strep. Were we still going to come?  And then a few days later, said they had RSV also. They did not have Covid or flu. Kelsi wanted to know if we had been vaccinated for RSV.  I told her no vaccination for RSV but we did have flu and covid boosters. I was going to come regardless of what the children had so she and Nate could go on their trip.  Jeffrey decided to come with me. The plan was for him to come for the weekend, then go back to teach his seminary classes, then pick me up the next Friday.

The three oldest were on the up phase of getting better though still coughing. But little Emma was just beginning her illness journey. I was grateful that Jeffrey was here on Friday night as Emma would only settle and finally go to sleep when he rocked her to sleep. She kept pointing outside where she had last seen her parents, pointing to their bedroom, generally letting me know she wanted her mom. So it was good to hand her off to Jeffrey who rocked her until she found a comfortable spot and fell asleep.  Sifting her to the bed was tricky and it looked like she would wake up crying --- but luckily she settled and went to sleep. Amazingly she didn't get up during the night.

Saturday was a looong day.....
